On May 14, 2021, the healthcare District hosted a mural unveiling at Split Rock clinic in 29 Palms. The mural was completed in 2020 but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the unveiling ceremony was delayed.

The property was purchased by the District through a donation from the Kenney family. Enough funds were retained to commission the mural of the Kenney drugstore, an historical icon in the 29 Palms community. The building houses the Morongo Basin Community Health Center pediatric services.

Ed Kenney was born and raised in Nebraska. He graduated from Creighton University in Omaha with a degree from the School of Pharmacy, class of '32. He and his wife Margaret moved to 29 Palms in 1940 and opened Kenney's Drug Store. For the next 40 years he would endear himself to the people of the remote desert town of Twentynine Palms. They would refer to him as the "Founding Father." He was not only a successful businessman, but a leading figure in the medical community. This medical complex is dedicated to his memory and is a testament to his overwhelming generosity and commitment to the people of Twentynine Palms.
