For many, the holidays bring joy, festive fun and togetherness. But there are some others who see the holidays as a very sad time of year. If you are someone who experiences the holiday blues, here are some ways to help you through and give you some positive things to focus on as we approach a new year:

  • GET PLENTY OF SLEEP: Rest can improve your mood.

  • LIMIT ALCOHOL: Consuming alcohol can magnify negative feelings.

  • EXERCISE REGULARLY: A 10-minute walk can release mood-boosting endorphins.

  • EMBRACE A NEW TRADITION: Allow new traditions to unfold.

  • VOLUNTEER: Focusing on helping others allows you to redirect sad thoughts.

If you are still feeling depressed in the New Year, you may be dealing with something more than holiday blues. Speak to your medical provider or learn more about Morongo Basin Community Health Center’s behavioral health program by calling 760-365-9305, ext. 2002.
